Product Description

Barbie stars as Elina in her first-ever Fairytopia movie. Come join Elina and discover a magical new land filled with fairies, flowers, and enchanting experiences! Just through the rainbow, in the world of Fairytopia, lives Elina, a beautiful flower fairy who longs to have wings! Her home is a large flower in the Magic Meadow where she lives with Bibble, a quirky but loveable puffball. One day Elina wakes to find that her flower home is sick, and that her fairy friends can’t fly! She summons the courage to help and embarks on a fantastic journey to find Azura, a fairy guardian she thinks can solve the problem. What Elina doesn’t know is that the evil Laverna has caused the flying sickness as part of her plan to take power from the Enchantress, ruler of Fairytopia! Elina’s journey, on the back of a giant and beautiful butterfly named Hue, takes her to strange and beautiful places. She meets new people who test her courage and teach her the value of true friendship. But can a young, wingless fairy save all of Fairytopia?

A message from the Barbie Fairytopia DVD distributor:

While the Barbie Fairytopia DVD is fully functional on virtually all of the 600 plus DVD player models in the marketplace, to date we have identified that there are five DVD players on which the DVD is sometimes prompting a request for a parental code–-rather than allowing the DVD to play. The five players identified to date are: RJTech 1200b, Daewoo model# 5900, Cinevision model# DVR 2000, AMW model# S99, GO Video VHS/DVD model# 1030. We deeply regret the inconvenience that this may cause owners of one these players. We have identified that the issue on these players is tied to one of the fun special features that was included on the DVD designed to further enhance the wonderful enjoyment that kids will have with the Barbie Fairytopia DVD. The interactive game has an element of programming complexity that is confusing these DVD players. We are attempting to resolve the issue for these players, but in the meantime:

If you own one of these players- you may be asked to enter a Parental Code Pass Code. If you are given this prompt–- and have never set up a Parental Code Pass Code--you may be able to resolve the issue by following the instructions below:

1. Refer to your DVD user manual to obtain default Parental Code pass code.

2. Enter pass code and hit select or enter.

3. If you see a black screen for longer than a few seconds, hit the menu button.

4. If the problem is still not solved, eject disc, unplug player, and try again.

If you do not own or play the DVD on one of the DVD players that we have identified, your DVD should play regularly. Once again--we regret any inconvenience to owners of one of the 5 players noted above. If you have any questions or comments--or have identified another player with this parental-code notification, please do not hesitate to contact us at customerservice@lgf.com.

Bravery, commitment to friendship, and personal sacrifice empower the weak and give rise to unlikely heroes in the magical world of Fairytopia. Elina (played by Barbie) is a wingless fairy who is mercilessly teased by a trio of spiteful fairies. Luckily for Elina, Dandelion (a fellow fairy) and Bibble (a cute little puffball) are good, supportive friends. When the evil Laverna plots to take over Fairytopia and spreads a potion that causes an epidemic of flying sickness in Fairytopia, Elina is the only fairy not overcome with the illness. It's up to Elina, Bibble, and new friend Hue to find a way to defeat Laverna and save Fairytopia from ruin. While the brightly colored animation of Fairytopia is enticing and the messages of friendship and sacrifice wholesome, the story line and characters are shallow and predictable. Worse yet, the colloquial dialogue and prepubescent attitude of many of the characters is downright annoying. While young Barbie fans will doubtless enjoy Fairytopia, Barbie Princess and the Pauper, Barbie Nutcracker, and Barbie Swan Lake offer richer story lines with better developed and more likeable characters. On a technical note, the DVD played fine on three test DVD players (Sony and Panasonic). (Ages 3 to 9) --Tami Horiuchi

Customer Reviews

Bi-Lingual Fan5
The reason I've decided to review this movie is because I wanted to offer a little advice to those of you who are searching on-line. I gave Barbie Fairytopia 5 stars for 3 reasons.

First it comes in both English & Spanish audio versions. This is a rare feature with children's titles, but a must have for our family. If any of you are thinking about teaching your child a second language, watching cartoons is the easiest way for them to pick it up. My daughter understands more Spanish then I've ever spoken at home because of these "Bonus" language tracks included.

Second, it is an actual movie with total run time of 70 minutes. This is wonderful for those parents who might need a few minutes of peace and quiet every now & then. I hate buying a feature and it turns out to be 4-30 minute TV episodes, which actually translates to be 4-23 minute episodes. My daughter loses interest after the first episode and never fully returns to enjoy the entire thing. This feature offers a warm story line based on bravery, loveable characters, and good quality graphics.

And finally, I loved the price. I bought it on Amazon.com for under $10 which now a days is just as rare as Spanish. I always regret paying full price of $19.99 for a brand new DVD only to find my 2 year-old using the new DVD as her new play toy. It's kind of hard to take away baby's new Barbie movie from baby or teach them why scratches are bad for playability. (I hope you parents out there understand what I'm trying to say.) In conclusion, this is a great movie for a great price.

Great for Bonding5
My daughter (5 years old) loves this series of videos. We watch them together and it is great for bonding and communicating.

My girls love it!4
My girls, ages 4 and 2, really like this movie. They find the Fungi (the "bad guys") a little scary. They also point out that Laverna is really mean. The Fungi are gross-looking (in my opinion) and kind of creepy. Other than that, the movie has a good message about doing what is right, and about being unselfish.
