Children will feel their imagination take flight along with the title character as they enjoy Neil Reed's captivating tale of a very special midnight ride.
More than anything, Millie loves the statue of the unicorn at her park. Its closed eyes, gentle mouth, and kind smile always make her happy. Then, one day, as she presses her hands against the statue's neck, she feels a shiver run through the stone: marble has become flesh and the unicorn has come alive. And riding on his back, Millie soars up, up, up, into the sky, over forest and lakes, through storms and lighting, to the land where unicorns still play….
With images so realistic they almost seem photographed, and spot-lamination that makes the stars-and lots more on the page-shine, this beautiful story will become a perennial favorite.
Neil Reed has been illustrating books for nineteen years. His illustrations for Unicorn Dreams, by Dyan Sheldon, were praised by School Library Journal as “captivating….Reed's unicorn…will win the hearts of romantics of all ages.” Of his illustrations for Shirley Isherwood’s Something for James, Publishers Weekly raved, “Reed's radiant watercolors set off the tale like a Tiffany setting displays a gem…the cozy world that the warmly lit artwork portrays is one that readers will eagerly enter time and again.” When Neil Reed is not illustrating books for young readers, he can be found surfing with his children at beaches near their home in Cornwall, England.

From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 2—Millie loves unicorns: she makes clay figures of the creatures and frequently visits a statue of one in the park. On one such trip with her father and Casper, the family dog, the statue comes alive. With Casper at their side, Millie and her new friend fly through a rainstorm, to snow on a mountaintop, to a warm desert, and into ocean breakers. The trio land on a rainbow that leads them to a herd of unicorns on a beach, where they fall asleep. This oversize watercolor fantasy will charm young unicorn lovers. Spot lamination is used to make the artwork shine. Those who enjoyed B. G. Hennessy's Claire and the Unicorn Happy Ever After (S & S, 2006) will want to see this one, too.—Marilyn Ackerman, Brooklyn Public Library, NY

Stunningly Illustrated Book
This book is gorgeous, and is a wonderful story for any horse/unicorn loving child. My daughter is 5, and has me read this book to her at least twice a week. She got this book last year for Christmas, and it is one of her favorites.
The illustrations are outstanding. The story of a little girl and her Midnight Unicorn is timeless.
Plus, the dog in it looks just like my old chocolate lab, so this story has a place in my heart for sure.
Delightful, charming, happy ending.... wholesome story.
The artwork is beautiful, the story is a delight. My daughter got this for her 4th birthday and this has become a staple bedtime story. It's long enough to have substance, short enough that it doesn't drag. I can't recommend it enough.
Great story with beautiful pictures
I bought this story for my daughter for her fifth birthday, and I am so glad I did. She loves it, and the story (about a little girl who visits a stone statue of a unicorn that comes to life and flies with the girl all over the world) is creative and enjoyable for both my daughter and me (that is, I don't mind reading it to her). But the best part is the pictures, which are glorious, very detailed, and actually are textured. My daughter loves feeling the raised "raindrops" and the unicorn's mane. I really recommend this to parents of children 4 - 6, especially of kids who are dreamers and love horses and unicorns.
